What Is a Charity Auction Host?

A Charity Auction Host is a volunteer who runs their own online auction community — on Facebook, Marketplace, or any platform they choose — and donates 50% of every sale's proceeds to The Clarity of Charity.

You are not an employee. You are not a paid representative. You are a community member who has chosen to use their own network, their own items, and their own energy to fund safe homes for the most vulnerable children alive.

You sell what you already own — or what your community donates to your auction. You keep half. The other half goes directly through our official donation channels to the children.

Every approved host is listed publicly on our website. Every host submits a monthly donation summary. Every donation is made through our verified PayPal or Zeffy link — never to a personal account.

The 50/50 Model

Sell anything. Clothes, furniture, collectibles, art, handmade goods, electronics. Your auction. Your items. Your community.

When a sale closes, you keep your half and donate the other half directly through our official channels. Simple, transparent, and verified.

50%
Goes to you — your time, your items, your effort
50%
Goes directly to building safe homes for displaced 0–7 victims

How It Works

Step 01
Apply & Get Approved
Complete the registration form below. Jennifer reviews every application personally. Approval typically takes 2–3 business days. You'll receive a welcome kit with everything you need to get started.
Step 02
Set Up Your Auction
Create your Facebook Group, Marketplace listing, or chosen platform. Use the approved branding language and description from your welcome kit. Link back to our official website so buyers can verify your legitimacy.
Step 03
Post & Sell
List your items with descriptions, photos, and starting bids. Collect payment from buyers however works for your platform. Run your auction your way — we just ask that you follow the Host Agreement.
Step 04
Donate Your 50%
After each sale (or at the end of each week), send your 50% donation directly through our official PayPal link or Zeffy page. Never send funds to a personal account — always use our verified channels.
Step 05
Submit Monthly Report
Email a simple monthly summary to theclarityofcharity.volunteer@gmail.com — total sales, total donated, items sold. This keeps your host status active and lets us publicly acknowledge your impact.
Step 06
Get Recognized
Active hosts are listed on our website, featured in our social media, and acknowledged in our monthly donor reports. Your auction community becomes a visible, named part of The Return to Innocence Project.

Your Step-by-Step Host Guide

Facebook Groups are the easiest and most effective platform for charity auctions. Here's how to set yours up correctly from day one.

  • Go to Facebook → Groups → Create New Group
  • Name your group clearly — suggested format: "[Your Name]'s Auction — Supporting The Clarity of Charity"
  • Set the group to Public so buyers can find it and verify its legitimacy
  • In the About section, paste the approved description from your welcome kit — include our official website link
  • Pin a post at the top explaining the 50/50 model and linking to our official donation page
  • Add the Clarity of Charity website to your group's featured links
⚠️ Do not use "Official" or "Authorized Representative" in your group name. You are a Volunteer Host. Use exactly that language.

Once your group is live, email the link to theclarityofcharity.volunteer@gmail.com and we'll add it to our official host directory.

Great auction posts get more bids and more money for the children. Follow this formula:

  • Photos first — minimum 3 clear photos, good lighting, no clutter in background
  • Starting bid — set at roughly 30–40% of item's value to attract early bidders
  • Description — item condition, dimensions if relevant, any flaws disclosed honestly
  • Bid increment — specify (e.g. "minimum $2 bid increments")
  • Closing time — always set a specific end time ("Auction closes Sunday 8PM Mountain Time")
  • Shipping or pickup — be clear about whether you ship, cost, or pickup only

Always include this line at the bottom of every listing:

"50% of this sale goes directly to The Clarity of Charity (CRA #748511078) — building safe homes for displaced trafficking victims ages 0–7. Donate directly at: https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=8C7PBBDL42XKL"

How you collect from buyers is up to you — it's your auction and your money. Common options:

  • E-transfer (Interac) to your personal account
  • PayPal Friends & Family (no fees)
  • Cash on pickup
  • Facebook Pay / Marketplace payment
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Buyers pay YOU, not The Clarity of Charity. You then donate your 50% through our official channels. Never ask buyers to send funds directly to TCC — this creates confusion and cannot be verified.

After collecting from the buyer, send your 50% to TCC via our official PayPal link or Zeffy page within 7 days of the sale closing. Keep a simple record of each transaction for your monthly report.

This step is critical. All donations must go through verified, official channels. There are two approved methods:

  • PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=8C7PBBDL42XKL
  • Zeffy: Use the link provided in your welcome kit (0% platform fees)

When making your donation, add a note: "Auction Host Donation — [Your Name] — [Month]". This lets us match your donation to your monthly report and acknowledge it correctly.

Never send funds via e-transfer to any personal email address claiming to be The Clarity of Charity. Our only official email is theclarityofcharity.volunteer@gmail.com and we do not accept e-transfers directly.

You will receive an automatic PayPal or Zeffy receipt. Save these for your records. If you need a CRA donation receipt, contact us — we can issue one for verified cumulative donations.

The most sustainable auction hosts have multiple item sources. Ideas:

  • Your own declutter — clothes, home goods, books, electronics, décor
  • Friends and family donations — ask your network to donate items to your auction
  • Local business donations — approach local shops, restaurants, and services for gift cards or products
  • Handmade items — crafts, baked goods (local pickup), artwork, knitted items
  • Thrift store finds — buy low, list higher, donate the 50% from the profit
If a business donates an item specifically for your charity auction, make sure they know the 50/50 model — 50% of the sale goes to TCC, 50% covers your sourcing costs or goes back to them as credit if agreed.

You may not accept cash donations "for the auction" from buyers or the public and then redirect them. Cash donations must go through our official PayPal or Zeffy channels directly.

On the last day of each month, email a brief summary to theclarityofcharity.volunteer@gmail.com. Subject line: "[Your Name] — Auction Report — [Month Year]"

Include:

  • Total sales this month (CAD)
  • Total donated to TCC (50% of above)
  • Number of items sold
  • PayPal/Zeffy confirmation number(s) for your donation(s)
  • Any items you'd like us to feature or shoutout on our social media
Hosts who do not submit monthly reports for two consecutive months will have their host status reviewed. We need accountability on both ends — it protects you, the donors, and the children.

We'll reply with a public acknowledgment and add your monthly total to our community fundraising tracker. Your auction community will see the real impact of what they helped build.

The best auction hosts build a loyal buyer community that comes back every week. Here's how:

  • Post consistently — even 2–3 items a week builds momentum and keeps your group active
  • Share the mission — regularly post updates from The Clarity of Charity so buyers feel connected to the cause
  • Acknowledge buyers publicly — thank them by name when they win an auction
  • Run themed auctions — seasonal themes, holiday specials, "mystery box" auctions drive engagement
  • Invite your buyer community to recruit others — every buyer who shares your group is a volunteer recruiter
  • Share your monthly donation total — tell your community how much they raised collectively. Make them proud.

Tag @ClarityOfCharity in posts about your auction and we will share your content on our official pages — giving your group free exposure to our growing audience.

The Host Agreement

We welcome every host with open arms. We also take our CRA registration, our donors' trust, and the children's safety seriously. Every host must understand and agree to these rules before applying. This is how we protect the mission — and how we protect you.

⚠️ Fraud Prevention — Zero Tolerance

The Clarity of Charity is a CRA-registered nonprofit. Any misuse of our name, number, or mission for personal financial gain is fraud under Canadian law — and we will report it without hesitation.

All donations must flow through our official PayPal or Zeffy channels. Never through personal accounts, wire transfers, gift cards, or any method not listed in this agreement. Any host found soliciting money in TCC's name outside of these channels will be immediately reported to the CRA and relevant authorities.

Send all donations through official channels only
PayPal (paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=8C7PBBDL42XKL) or Zeffy (link in welcome kit). No exceptions.
Never collect donations to a personal account
Do not ask buyers or the public to send money "to TCC" via your personal PayPal, e-transfer, Venmo, or any personal account.
Identify yourself as a Volunteer Host
You are a community volunteer. Not an employee, not an official representative, not a paid staff member. Use this language exactly.
Never create unofficial TCC branding
Do not create logos, letterhead, official-looking certificates, or materials that imply you are acting on behalf of TCC officially. Use only approved materials from your welcome kit.
Submit monthly reports
A simple monthly email with your sales total, donation amount, and PayPal/Zeffy confirmation numbers. Required to maintain active host status.
Never sell items donated specifically for TCC and keep all proceeds
If items are donated to your auction explicitly for the charity, the 50/50 split applies. Keeping all proceeds from donated items is fraud.
Link to our official website in every listing
Every auction post and group description must include our official website so buyers can independently verify your host status.
Never operate if your application was not approved
Running an auction in TCC's name before receiving written approval is unauthorized and will be treated as fraudulent misrepresentation.

Volunteer Auction Host Agreement — The Clarity of Charity

By submitting this application, I understand and agree to the following:

  1. I am a volunteer. I am not an employee, paid contractor, or official representative of The Clarity of Charity. I will not represent myself as such in any communication, listing, or public material.
  2. All donations must go through official channels. I will send 50% of my auction proceeds exclusively through The Clarity of Charity's official PayPal link (paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=8C7PBBDL42XKL) or approved Zeffy page. I will never direct buyers or the public to send funds to any personal account on behalf of TCC.
  3. I will not solicit cash donations. I will not ask buyers, group members, or the public to donate cash, gift cards, e-transfers, or cryptocurrency directly to me "for The Clarity of Charity." All charitable contributions must go through TCC's verified channels.
  4. I will not create unauthorized branding. I will not create logos, official-looking certificates, letterhead, or any materials that imply official affiliation with TCC beyond "Volunteer Auction Host." I will use only materials provided in my approved welcome kit.
  5. I will submit monthly reports. I will email a donation summary including PayPal/Zeffy confirmation numbers to theclarityofcharity.volunteer@gmail.com by the last day of each month. Failure to submit reports for two consecutive months may result in revocation of host status.
  6. I will link to TCC's official website in all listings. Every auction post and group description will include a link to theclarityofcharity.github.io so buyers can independently verify my host status.
  7. I will not operate before receiving written approval. Running an auction in The Clarity of Charity's name without written approval from Jennifer Coburn constitutes unauthorized use of the organization's identity and may be reported to the CRA and relevant authorities.
  8. I understand this authorization may be revoked. The Clarity of Charity reserves the right to revoke my host status at any time, without notice, if any term of this agreement is violated or if the organization determines that continued authorization is not in the mission's best interest.
  9. I will report suspected fraud. If I become aware of anyone operating an auction in TCC's name without authorization, or soliciting funds fraudulently, I will report it immediately to theclarityofcharity.volunteer@gmail.com.
  10. Fraudulent activity will be reported. Any misuse of The Clarity of Charity's name, CRA registration number, or mission for personal financial gain is fraud under Canadian law. TCC will report any such activity to the Canada Revenue Agency and relevant law enforcement without exception.

Applications reviewed personally by Jennifer Coburn within 2–3 business days. You'll receive a confirmation email when your application is received.

Before You Apply

Do I need any experience running auctions?
No. Your welcome kit includes everything you need to start — approved language, a step-by-step setup guide, and posting templates. If you can post on Facebook, you can host an auction.
Can I recruit others to sell in my auction group?
Yes — that's encouraged. You can invite others to post in your group, as long as you make clear to every seller that 50% of their proceeds are expected as a donation, and that you are responsible for collecting and remitting that amount.
Will I get a tax receipt for my donations?
Donations made through our official PayPal or Zeffy channels generate a receipt automatically. CRA-compliant donation receipts for larger cumulative amounts can be issued on request. Contact us with your annual totals.
What happens if a buyer asks for a refund?
Refunds are between you and the buyer — your auction, your responsibility. We recommend a clear "as-is" or "all sales final" policy in your group rules. Include a note about this in your welcome post.
Can I run more than one auction group?
Yes, with a separate approval for each group. Each group must be listed in our host directory and follow all the same rules. You'll submit one combined monthly report covering all your groups.
What if I suspect someone is running a fraudulent auction in TCC's name?
Report it immediately to theclarityofcharity.volunteer@gmail.com with as much detail as possible — group name, link, screenshots. We take this seriously and will act quickly.
